WOMEN'S LONGBOARD CAMP 2013

2013-01-17

as part of the crew and attendant of last year's women's longboard camp I am very excited to tell you that the second edition is coming up this may in France. I wish for many familiar faces and I am looking forward to meet at least as many new ones. Fee Bücheler, busy bee and head of this amazing event has all the infos and candies for you.

hej Fee, how did the idea for the first women's longboard camp come up?
I don't think there was a special day I woke up and thought "uhhh, let's do a camp for women". it was more something that Christine and I always were thinking about: "how can we motivate more women in longboarding?" the camp seemed to be the perfect answer. there are so many camps for snowboarding and surfing so why shouldn't this work for longboarding as well?

what can we expect from the camp?
it's not just that your level is growing. it's also a place for meeting other great women that are stoked by the same things as you are and it's the start of a lot of friendships. and for sure nobody will be hungry or thursty. you can expect definitely one of the best weeks with muscle soreness for whole 2013.

how were your impressions of last year's camp in slovenia?
uhhhh, I was fucking excited, really. if you've never organized something like that before you want to do it perfect. on the second day I was so stoked to see how fast everybody was learning, how all the women threw their nervous ticking bombs in their head away and started to skate like there is no tomorrow. I always think of the last day of the camp when mostly everybody was crying because it was over ... goosebumbs over and over.
all of them worked on their skills and I met a lot of the ladies which joined our camp in the last months, they are all so stoked ... mission accomplished.
if you want to know more about last year maybe this report gives you the right feeling.

is there something you'd like to make differently in France?
Yeah, definitely. we have only two options for booking this time. there's a camp option including food and drinking and a camp option that is called „course marshalling option“. this one is cheaper but you have to do the course marshalling instead of freeriding in the afternoon.
we call this camp „back to basic“. there will be only camping (no hotel or hostel) directly on the track with a more relaxed ambience in the evening, a few beers and maybe fire if the weather allows it. I think this time will be more like we really handle skating in our lives.
in one of the weeks we (what means you and maria wolfsberger) will film a bit for an amazing review. and I really hope that there will be more time for the team, for getting more relaxed to be able to put more energy into every woman that joins us.

what can the participants look forward to in particular?
that we did the first camp already, free drinks, an amazing brand new asphalt on the track, camping directly on the track, yummy food made by the adh-crew, some more crazy stuff we are still working on and some good sponsorships.

do you have any shout outs?
sure! thanks to the crew last year! especially Christine, the longboardmag crew slovenia and all the guys which had so much fun in doing the course marshalling for us. thanks to the crew this year, escpecially the adh-crew.
to the sponsors last year: Fibretec Longboards, Orangatang Wheels, Sabre Trucks, Concretewave Shop, Longboardshop, Rollladen, LesEttes, Sixxa, Musikshop Barde, LassRollen
to the sponsors this year: Zibeline Beanies,  LushLongboards, Rollladen, Sixxa and hopefully much more in a few weeks...
and not to forget for every women which believed in us last year and took part in the first ever women's longboard camp worldwide! thank you skateboarding to give us so much energy! if you need a hero take skateboarding.

GIRLS, BOARDS AND A BEAR.

2012-08-15

it's just some days ago the first women's longboard camp came to an end but thinking back and going through the pictures I took it feels like its stories and impressions could fill my whole summer.
amidst a small and sleepy village in slovenia a bunch of lively girls gathered from all over europe to defeat the bear. the bear is a hill. a huge one and quite steep as well. facing the bear's guts for the first time gave me the creeps.

i hardly can't believe how much everybody learned and improved. besides the amazing job our instructors fee, sophie, christine, anni and glori did by responding to everybody's needs i think the bubbling energy between us girls brought ourselves to do things some of us maybe never thought of doing in our lives.

of course there were not just girls. it were the boys who protected the track with 2000! hay bails before. and they were doing great as road marshals. they gave us some important hints for sliding and drove us up the hill and not to forget the campfire they made every night.

at the beginning of the camp all participants got a longboard we set up together at a workshop. distracted by its wonderful shape and sixxa's great pirate ship graphic we screwed around and learned a lot about bushings, kingpins and bearings, yo.

in this idyllic creek that builds the boarder to croatia we found our cooling after skating. and yes, in some of us it awoke the animal.

this is one of the last pictures I took. it's nice to see how close we all got after some days sharing our passion. only crew love is true love.

this week teached me a lot. a healthy fear is important but sometimes it's time to switch off your brain and just listen to your heart. whether it's about going downhill as fast as you can or just do another turn while dancing on your board. with every try you grow.

sonja, i loved to listen to your songs.

LADIES LONGBOARD WORKSHOP WITH FEE & SOPHIE

2011-10-03

we know it´s been a long time frau fee (1st picture) and miss sophie (2nd one) did their longboard workshop in vienna. but anybody who´s a lover of analog photography needs to be patient. it was just overwhelming how many girls came by. some of them even travelled from different cities to enjoy a bubbling session at the donauinsel.

accordingly to their level the bunch of girls was separated into two groups. while the advanced girls learned how to slide the girls in the beginners group trained smooth foot brakes and early grabs. yes, early grabs. sophie, thank you for that!

after the workshop we rolled to the prater to turn our spins in about 100 m height.

to see more pictures of the workshop please visit the longboard girls crew austria page. once again it has been an inspireing day with all of you. thank you fee and sophie for sharing your passion and thank you for the pictures, nicole. and not to forget to say thank you to the ladies from sixxa and les ettes for their support.

ABOUT A GIRL – FEE BÜCHELER

2010-09-26

fee is head of huegelherzblut and a she´s a so called mini board junkie. she developes and shapes longboards, run her own fashionlabel and she´s the one who could give you advice how to draw your perfect line downwards.

hi fee, the name „huegelherzblut“ reveals a lot about passion. what does it mean to you running your own longboard and fashion label?
"smile" wicked! it’s great to transact my ideas to a certain degree. my team and I grow especially in the longboard field. so just in that moment we have our boards exactly the way we want them to be.
to my disappointment I have to say that we let the fashion part slide over the last two years. in the beginning I created a lot with my friends. we played out ideas – a lot of printed stuff – but unfortunately not anymore because we’re short in time.

how’s life in freiburg? please tell us a bit about the people and the region.
“love” freiburg’s home. a place where I want to return again and again. the peeps are a mixture of students and freaks loving to be outdoors. and it’s probably more quiet than elsewhere. freiburg is more than green. it´s a longboard paradise!

there are many different kinds of styles in longboarding e.g. sliding, downhill or just cruising. what do you like the best and why?
there’s no either or. in my case it’s rather an emotional thing. sometimes I’m flashed by sliding, sometimes by carving. this year I rediscovered my passion for downhill and found my new passion “bobrunskating”.

bobrunskating sounds crazy and also a bit dangerous. what kind of injuries you carried away over time?
a stucked nerve kind of knocked me out. that was the most severe story, but without it there would be no “huegelherzblut” today. in times of injuries I have time to develop my projects. then there was a bursitis which was also kind of tough and right at the moment I have a broken shoulder blade. it’s a good rate I would say.

we discovered your longboards at sixxa for the first time. can you tell us about the cooperation with sixxa?
it all started with my shop. I have sixxa´s collection in my shop for almost two years now and it is inevitable that you meet and swap ideas.
I’m just flashed of girls who “do”. sixxa outlines so much. the girls are pushing things and other women forwards. so it was clear as daylight that such a cooperation must take place.

this summer you ran girls workshops. was it a one-off thing or can you imagine to do it again ... hmm, let’s say further east?
yeahh, the first girls only workshop that year took place in england. it really moved me. i have a teamrider there who claimed that there were no girls to ride with in the uk. as I got there there have been 13 girls! the second workshop was more spontaneous. it took place on an old downhill worldchampion line and it has been a long time since i had a session with so many girls.
I always wonder how fast people are able to learn when they get a little motivation and introduction. sure there will be more girls only workshops. we are just working on a few ideas and I will try to spread my workshops fair over all directions.

something you say too often?
bodytension

something you can’t get enough of?
curves

something you would never hand back again?
my boards of course!

do you have a tip for all the girls who are thinking about buying a longboard?
test it before. a board is an individual piece of sports equipment. your personal feeling counts for at least 90%.

fee, thank you so much and get well soon!
