the last couple of days i spent at kay flavell's house near masterton, new zealand. originally it was built in 1911 for a yorkshire clockmaker. i fell in love with it the first time i set foot into it. it's a residency for artists and writers. it's a place that inspires. everyday you discover something new that tells its own little story. you can work on your art and let your imagination run free or take a walk near the river, enjoying the peaceful nature. 

kay flavell grew up on a farm on the slopes of signal hill. her passion for diderot and goethe led her on a long journey through the world's great libraries. after teaching for 37 years at different universities in europe and california she founded new pacific studios
