GOING SOUTH

during my new zealand journey on the southern island i met andre maubeck and jose flavio from brasil. after spraying walls and surfboards this summer in australia they decided to bring some color into new zealand's winter landscape. it has been two years now that they are on tour, spending whole days painting and following their dreams. their way of living and creativity inspires us and puts a big smile on our faces!

moana nepia's art installation 'maungauika trilogy' shows figures in slow motion dancing through the shadows of the night te po, caught between a place of light and darkness. moana's work stands for a maori interpretation of te kore, a nurturing void that enables the existence of life. his work represents the belief of the emergence of light from a long period of darkness.

unfortunately we have missed this outrageous surf festival in new plymouth. but not so dean, a friend of us. he was so nice to give us the pictures he took of the new zealand surf festival. by the way, congratulations to sally fitzgibbons, the girl of the hour!

the last two weeks we lived at john and allison's artstudio called homeprint. here you can let your imagination run free doing carving, painting, printing, bookbinding and unfold your creativity. twelve years ago john and allison started their business deciding to lead a life as writers, illustraters, bookbinders and publishers, all in one. they make artbooks with the help of their big old letterpresscollection, hundred fonts of woodprint and a bunch of carvingtools. lucky us ... they've decided to give young people interested in art the opportunity to learn about printingtechniques and bookbinding providing an interesting space to work. it's worth a visit! we can tell. especially if you're into diy and being involved in the whole process. we are!
